Spook Your Guests With Scary Halloween Food

Spook Your Guests With Scary Halloween Food

Posted by Julie on Oct 17th 2016

Most of the fall and winter holidays revolve around creating and sharing delicious food with friends and family. We spend hours in the kitchen preparing traditional favorites and trying out new recipes everyone will enjoy. But Halloween is one occasion when it's appropriate to serve food that makes your guests shriek, "What IS that?!"

If you're hosting a Halloween gathering, allow us to help you disgust your partygoers with these revolting recipes. We bet your guests will share your scary Halloween food on Instagram, right before they devour it.

Where it comes to scary Halloween food, the grosser -- the better!

Scary Halloween Food: Avocado and Wasabi Deviled Eggs

We're so impressed with these spidery deviled eggs created by Laura from Family Spice. The web effect is amazing, and we love how she used avocado in place of mayonnaise. Piping the avocado filling into the egg halves gives the illusion of green worms (or worse). The sesame seeds are a spooky touch too. Keep in mind you'll need to triple her recipe at least, if you plan to serve to a group.

Scary Halloween Food: Sausage Stuffed Pastry Guts

These are the most appetizing guts we've ever seen, and one of the most entertaining recipes we've ever read. Chris-Rachael, also known as Kitchen Overlord, is a hilarious writer, and her directions are clear and easy to follow. Even better, these pastry guts sound like they'll smell and taste so good, you and your guests will happily dig in.

Scary Halloween Food: Jell-O Blood Worms

You may have seen Jell-O worms in the past and been skeptical about how they would turn out if you made them yourself. We've been similarly skeptical. That's why we're including these worms made by Amy from The Idea Room.

She posted a time-lapse video of the whole process, including the extraction of the worms from the straws. Her video convinced us we could actually make these worms look just as creepy and gross as they should. Don't forget to crush some crushed chocolate sandwich cookies to look like dirt, or whip up some chocolate pudding "mud" where your worms can lounge.

Scary Halloween Food: Cookies and Cream Cheese Ball Rat

Blood and guts are definitely disgusting, but it was this cheese ball rat by Beth from Hungry Happenings that really gave us a fright. We're pretty sure your guests will shriek once they spot this rodent on your dessert table.

Mix finely ground chocolate cookies with cream cheese to form the body and appendages, and pipe bright pink icing for the claws and tail. A couple chocolate chips for eyes are the finishing touch. Serve with a cheese knife to spread on vanilla wafers or slices of sweet quick bread.
