1. Cooking Apps: Tasty by Buzzfeed
If you've seen a recipe prep video shot from overhead, you've probably seen a Tasty production. They pioneered this trendy time-lapse format that's fun to watch. But even better, their step-by-step video instructions help you avoid fails. The Tasty app search function lets you filter recipes by various criteria like One-Pot or Pan, 30 Minutes or Less, Casual Party, Date Night, and much more. The app also offers personalized recipe recommendations based on your feedback.
Yes, there's a separate Buzzfeed app that incorporates all of their content (including Tasty), which is great for Android users since the Tasty app is currently only on iOS. But if you want to use it for cooking, download the separate app. Android users, stay tuned for your Tasty app launch, and don't be fooled by the imitators out there.

Looking for an app to help you get your act together in the kitchen? BigOven may be just what you need. This app is available on both iOS and Android, and it's a recipe organizer, meal planner, and grocery list maker in one. Search among the 350,000 recipes in the BigOven database, or upload your own from another site -- or from an ancient recipe card. So versatile!

While Tasty is full of entertainment value, and BigOven gets down to business, Kitchen Stories is an app that combines all of these features. It's based in Berlin, so it has more of an international feel. This isn't the recipe app you pull up when you're scrambling for dinner ideas; it's the one you lose yourself in (and forget to cook dinner entirely).
